The point of this post, however, is to share with you a nice realization I made earlier today.  If you recall, I recently switched over to Geiko car insurance (before I had been using triple A insurance) and was happy to report an annual savings of approximately $500 a year.  I went on to calculate that if I kept this insurance savings going for the next 50 years (yeah, I’m young), I would save somewhere around $25,000.  Well this morning I started thinking about other ways I could save $500 a year.  It’s really not that much–just about a dollar fifty per day.  If I could think of 10 ways I could save a dollar fifty per day, then in 50 years I would save $250,000–not to mention the $25,000 I’m already saving from finding a cheap car insurance rate.  That’s a quarter of a million dollars, and I don’t know about you, but when I’m seventy years old I think I’d be pretty happy with myself for having cut back on a few things that I didn’t really need (for example, by riding my bike to campus where I work out, instead of driving my car, I would save about $3 a day–about $1.50 on gas and another $1.50 of change I put in the meter) or finding other ways to save money (like I did when I got the cheap car insurance quote from Geiko).  The biking alone would constitute 2 out of the 10 things I need to eliminate in order to make my $250,000 retirement bonus

If you talk to the average person on the street and tell them you want to reduce your auto insurance payments, there’s a fairly good chance they’ll recommend getting a Gieco car insurance quote.  Gieco is often a great choice, but I feel it is important to compare multiple insurance rates and coverage options before going with a particular auto insurance company.  For example, a few months ago I was just about sold on Gieco auto insursnace. I hadn’t shopped around much, probably because I didn’t really think of comparing insurance rates, or perhaps I just thought a comparison would be too time consuming.

Fortunately I quickly discovered that it is very easy to compare multiple auto insurance rates online.  In fact, not only is it easy to compare multiple rates, but you can actually get full on official auto insurance quotes for different companies within just a few minutes.  In my case, it was one of these more ‘hidden’ car insurance quotes that was the cheapest option.  Gieco car insurance was actually more expensive in my case.  For that reason I strongly recommend not just going with Gieco auto insurance but instead comparing multiple car insurance quotes side by side.  Once you have all the information you can find the company that caters to your particular demographic and needs and in the end you can save a lot of money on your car insurance payments.

I also have to say that I love saving money on auto insurance because it is a recurring savings.  What I mean is that, for example, if you cut your auto insurance price from $1000 per year to $500 per year, it might appear on the surface that you’re saving $500.  That in itself is a great reason to spend 10 minutes comparing auto insurance quotes, but even if $500 weren’t enough of an incentive, add to that the fact that this savings happens year after year.  Going on with this example, if I were to get a Gieco auto insurance quote for $1000 and a car insurance quote for just $500 from another company I discovered when comparing rates, and I ended up going with the cheaper policy, chances are I’d stay with this company for many years.  If I stayed with the cheaper car insurance company for just 10 years, I would be saving a total of $5,000, not even considering the interest rate factor.  The motivation for running an auto insurance rate comparison tool like the one on this site grows increasingly powerful as you increase your foresight.

Thanks to the online tool on this site it takes just a few minutes to get multiple auto insurance quotes.  Once you’ve got these quotes you can choose the cheapest or best one.  So don’t just go with Gieco auto insurance—or any other company for that matter—without putting in the time and comparing auto insurance companies.  Good luck!

As I said there’s really no reason not to—it takes, I assume, just a few minutes.  Plus, I love the idea of saving $500 or so not only once, but annually.  So if the Geiko car insurance dream becomes true I’ll be one happy camper.  In my mind, a saving of $500 on my annual auto insurance is actually $500 times however many years I stay with that insurance company—in this case Geiko.  Being a young person, it isn’t crazy to think that I might use any given insurance company for another 50 years.  If that were the case with me and Geiko, and the insurance quote actually did save me $500, I’d be looking at a virtual paycheck of $500 * 50 = $25,000.  That’s almost the down payment on a small house, even here in California!  Alright… as I said, I’ll update tomorrow and keep our readers posted.  Hope to inform you of some great savings from Geiko :).
